In late June, the Eastminster community discussed together the film Just Mercy, which highlights the early work of Bryan Stevenson and the Equal Justice Initiative.
We highly encouraged the congregation to watch the film (it was available for free in the month of June on many streaming platforms) that sheds light on systemic racism and injustice in the criminal justice system.
Michael B. Jordan gives a powerful performance as real-life defense attorney Bryan Stevenson, who after graduating from Harvard travels to Alabama in hopes to help poor people who can’t afford legal representation. He then meets Walter McMillian (Jamie Foxx), a wrongly condemned death row prisoner.
